Tips To Keep Your Organic Garden Healthy While You're On Holidays
Some gardeners worry how their garden will survive while away on vacation. With a little planning and preparation, you can go on vacation without worrying about facing impending doom in the review of vegetables when you casa1: Plan your vacation time. It decides to sit on a beach somewhere, when you know your great turn ripe tomatoes. You lose the harvest and be so disappointed (including me!). I think the best time to go - if I have to go in summer - is in midsummer. My spring vegetables and finished my summer vegetables are not ready yet.2: Adjust the planting of your garden. If you know you will be out later in the summer, then the whole plant after ripening later - when you're fresh. This method works well for tomatoes, chilies and peppers, beans etc.3: Harvest before you leave. If you are going to be gone a week or so, all grains, even those that are too small for use. Beans stop production when allowed to ripen, so choose those that are mature while away. Do the same with eggplant. Tomatoes and peppers, in general, or may remain on the vine or dropped on the floor without damaging the plants. Collect all the female flowers of summer squash plants. It's amazing how quickly we can grow a pumpkin the size of a house, when you're not looking. Take all fresh vegetables with you, especially if you are visiting friends or relatives. I'm sure you'll love it.4: Get on top of weeds. Remove any larger weeds. I do not want to go home to find your garden taken by Triffids. And gardeners know that a season of weed seeds, means seven years weeding! 5: Water deeply. Although it has rained just before leaving, you should still give your plants a healthy watering before you leave. Better yet is to have an irrigation system set with a timer - set and forget.6: Apply fertilizer. The thick padding (15cm / 6 inches) of peas with wet straw or similar after a good watering. Add some 'compost mulch as an extra bonus for your plants. The mulch will help conserve water and avoid weeds.7: Enjoy your holiday. Now you can leave your garden, knowing it has already been well cared for.Hi am a passionate organic gardener and am known by my friends as the recycling queen.
